What is Sotto?
Sotto is a local-first macOS call copilot. It transcribes microphone and system audio on your Mac and drafts a context-aware suggestion when you press ⌘⏎.
Is it really invisible on screen share?
Not guaranteed. Private Presentation Mode asks macOS to exclude the overlay from supported capture paths, but behavior varies by macOS version and sharing app. Test your exact setup, and use ⌘\ to hide it instantly.
Does my audio leave my Mac?
Transcription runs on-device with WhisperKit, so your microphone audio is processed locally and isn't uploaded. When you request an answer, the relevant transcript text is sent to your chosen AI provider to generate the response.
Do I need an API key?
No. The beta includes a limited managed allowance. You can switch to your own OpenAI API key at any time; it is stored in your macOS Keychain.
Which Macs are supported?
Sotto supports Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. System-audio capture requires macOS 14.2 or later.
What are the main hotkeys?
⌘⏎ asks for an answer from the live conversation, ⌘\ toggles the overlay's visibility, and ⌘R starts a fresh session.
Is this allowed?
Use Sotto only where you are authorized to record, transcribe, and use AI assistance. Follow applicable consent laws and your employer's, school's, client's, and platform's policies. See our Responsible Use Policy.
How long does setup take?
Usually a few minutes, plus the first transcription-model download (about 626 MB). macOS will request microphone and system-audio permissions; screen recording is optional and used only for screen context.
